Enter December

Image result for a christmas carol

December steps out
all wrapped up
like some 19th century English caroler
into the snap cold of the late November
As the darkness of space
lowers upon the lonely streetlamps
and avenues
of the great city

All Souls 2017

All Souls 2017

“We're a ship without a storm
 Cold without the warm
Light inside the darkness lit at peace
 We're a laugh without a tear
 Hope without the fear
 We are coming home”

When Floodwaters unearth the graves
of those long since dead

Old Houses
Condemned, Gated,
Torn Down, Hauled Away,
and Burned

And Turnips
again replace Pumpkins
as Jack O Lanterns

And this throng
of souls
from out the low moaning wind

Across that fallowed and charred landscape
beneath the Aurora Borealis
and the planet Pluto at eventide

To Mercy

The Light Bringer

After the Chinese Lantern Festival
came the bright eerie star
on the southwestern horizon

An Omen
through the empty windswept windows
of the old haunted house

A little spice

The Sand Fire

The Blood Orange Sunset
through the falling ash

In the Morning
a clear blue sky
and the smell of burning newspaper

In the Dead Zone
the embers burn silently on
like some passageway

into Hell

Persuasion and Force

The Sun scorches the leaves of the Oak
a dry reddish brown
in September
amid the wicked spectre
of the long drought

But the cynical old oak, does not shed his leaves
But waits, for the bitter passing sprinkles
of a frail mid winter storm
to shed his sylvan magic

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

The Great Dragon
walks in the Park

In the early dark
of the December night

Between the glowing Santa`s Sleigh
and the young couples
huddled round the Nativity.

Glory to God in the Highest
And Peace on Earth
To all men of goodwill

But to the Great Horned Owl
perched in all his worldly wisdom
upon the threshold of the stars

And the wary little mouse
darting about in the gleanings of the neighborhood pumpkin patch

Is it Christmas

And the equestrian Constable
in a rare
Evening watch

The shy vagrant
who hides a bottle
from the streetlamp

The lonely and afraid commuter
wary of false hopes
and the high price of holiday tangerines

For even the darkness of Space
has Laws
and Mao Zedong

Christmas proves Man can be good
If only for a day

A couple of weeks

Until Fat Tuesday ?

And the Great Dragon
came alight
like a Four Story tall Christmas Tree.
